How to prevent the Lash Stickies?

During an extension treatment, a lash stickie is a phrase used to describe when one lash gets stuck to another. This is frequently due to a lack of isolation, the use of a slow-setting lash adhesive, or the application of too much glue to the lash extension.

Why are lash stickies so bothersome?

Stickies can irritate the eyes of your client, causing her to unconsciously rub her eyes or touch the extensions excessively. This may result in lower retention, which no one wants!

On a more severe side, if this occurs frequently, it may negatively impact natural lash growth and result in irreversible lash loss.
A lash stickie can come in a number of different forms.

Sticking baby lashes to an extension

A tiny baby lash is adhered to an extension in the first type of stickie. One of the most common types of stickies is this one, because baby lashes are short and difficult to isolate so they can be the most difficult to work with. Baby lashes also grow more faster than full-grown lashes in their "resting" period.

If a baby lash becomes twisted with an extension, it will continue to grow and may push the extension lash to the side, creating an unpleasant appearance. Never underestimate these teeny-tiny baby lashes.

When you use too much adhesive, this can happen. Using too much glue can cause the adhesive to take longer to dry, resulting in a clumpy bond!

This form of stickie can also make in-fills extremely difficult. As a result, make sure you use the correct quantity of glue for your sets and keep the isolation tweezers in place until the glue has dry.

The bottom lash is sticking to the upper lash.

When the lower lashes are not properly held by the under eye pad, this might happen (or tape). This can cause the lower lashes to spring out and become glued to the upper lash extensions throughout the session. Before allowing the clients to open their eyes after the set, gently pull up their eyelids and check for any upper and lower lashes that are stuck together.

So, how do I keep my lashes from sticking together?

Selecting the Best Lash Extension Glue

Stickies can be caused by a glue that dries too slowly. To avoid lash stickie, use a thin textured, fast drying adhesive like Black Glue H900 (1-2 second drying).
If you're using a glue that takes longer to cure or is more viscous, keep the isolation tweezers in place for a few seconds to ensure the adhesive adheres correctly. This is a fantastic way to lower the risk of lash stickies.

Make sure you use the proper amount of lash adhesive.

On the extension, you don't want a ball of glue! More glue will not result in longer retention. Dip the extension into the middle of the glue dot and slowly slide it out to be sure you're using the right amount. A little coating should be applied 2mm from the bottom of the lash extension.
Too much glue is added to the extension by pulling out too rapidly from the glue dot, scooping the glue with the extension, or skimming across the glue dot.

Do not wash off excess glue with a glue palette or gel pads if you have too much glue on the extension! Simply place the extension in the middle of the glue dot and pull it out slowly. It will adjust to the appropriate amount of adhesive.

Improve your application techniques.

Isolation is much easier when you separate the lashes into layers and work through each layer. As a result, you can reduce the chance of lash stickies while also reducing the application time.

Use a guide lash technique: Instead of working in one direction, try attaching lashes in the middle lines.

How should you check your work?

It's important taking a few minutes towards the end of the treatment to double-check that you haven't forgotten any lash stickies.

  • With your tweezers, examine each individual lash from root to tip. If there are any stickies, separate them.
  • Ask your client to blink a few times and roll her eyes in various directions to discover whether she is uncomfortable.
For their health and your job, the client's safety is always a top priority. It may appear like checking stickies takes a long time, but we assure you that it is not the case. It's well worth your time!
